Peru cement market contracts 3.5% YoY in June

In June, Peruvian cement demand fell by 3.5 per cent YoY to 0.756Mt from 0.781Mt, according to Asocem, the country's cement association. Vietnam's Building Material Department, under the Ministry of Construction, reports that cement producers in the country sold 38.7Mt of cement and clinker in the first half of this year, rising 12.4 per cent from a year earlier. Argentina: domestic demand down 19% in June 2016

Argentina’s cement demand contracted 18.8 per cent YoY in June 2016 to 857,525t from 1,055,434t in June 2015 and by 2.7 per cent MoM from 881,663t in May 2016, according to data from domestic cement association, AFCP. Saudi Arabia: export ban lifted

The Saudi Arabian government has decided to lift the export ban on cement, which was imposed in 2008 to push down prices and accommodate the demand generated by government-funded infrastructure projects. Pakistan's cement exports have recorded a marked fall in the first 11 months of FY15-16 as overseas demand has dropped and competition has intensified, according to data of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Cement exports by Semen Indonesia (including Semen Padang and Semen Tonasa) fell by 21.3 per cent during May 2016 to 37,588t, compared to 47,751t in the same month last year, according to the Indonesian Cement Association. Indonesia’s cement market continues to expand, according to official Indonesian cement industry statistics. Deputy Minister of Industry, Valiollah Afkhamirad has said that the country's exports to Turkmenistan have reached US$1bn. He added that Tehran is seeking now more than ever to secure its position in the Ashgabat market. According to Mr Afkhamirad, Iran holds the highest record of exports to Turkmenistan among the Commonwealth of Independent States.
