Cement illegally imported from India into Nepal, has been taken into police possession. During the transportation of the material to the District Police Office (DPO), local authorities were obstructed by protests from traders. Indian demand to pick up by 2% in FY18

Indian cement demand has been forecast to increase by two per cent in FY18, according to a notice by ICRA. In the first eight months of FY18 cement production grew by 0.6 per cent YoY, to 190Mt from the 188.8Mt reported in the year-ago period. Dalmia Bharat is set to acquire bankrupt Kalyanpur Cement after lenders have approved a debt resolution plan, reports the Economic Times. Dalmia outbid other companies like JSW Cement, JK Lakshmi and Star Cement, in a resolution which may exceed INR3.5bn (US$54.92m). Orient Cement reports 12% increase in revenue

Orient Cement has seen a 12.1 per cent increase in revenue in the quarter ended December 2017, according to Money Control. The revenue rose to INR5.11bn (US$80.37m) from INR4.56bn seen in the year-ago period.  However, the company has reported a net loss of INR177m (US$2.78m) in the 3QFY18, compared to the loss of INR116m in the previous year’s period. EBITDA fell 14.1 per cent YoY to INR391m, and the EBITDA margin decreased by 240bps at 7.6 per cent.

Cement producers change clinker import route

Cement plants in the Bara-Parsa Industrial Corridor, Nepal, have started importing clinker from Narayanpur railway station in India after residents in Raxaul barred the transport of clinker citing increased pollution and health hazards. LafargeHolcim-owned Ambuja Cement has co-processed more than 12,500t of biomass from farmers at its Rabriyawas plant in 2017, a considerable increase when compared with less than 800t in 2012. The Ambuja Cement Foundation established a farmer-producer company to directly supply biomass to Geocycle India, which processed the waste into a suitable fuel for firing the Rabriyawas kiln.

Pakistan’s cement exports to India grew by 26.3 per cent in FY17. Since beginning in 2010, India has become the second-largest market for cement exporters, with a 27 per cent share of the total exports from Pakistan in FY17.  Elsewhere, exports to Pakistan’s largest market, Afghanistan, fell for the sixth consecutive year in 2017.
