Prism Cement changes name to Prism Johnson

India’s Prism Cement Ltd has changed its name to Prism Johnson Ltd, effective from 18 April 2018. ''To dispel the perception that Prism Cement Limited […] is only a cement company, the name of the company has been changed to Prism Johnson. Prism Johnson is one of India's leading integrated building materials company and the new name reflects the product range and magnitude of operations of the company,'' said Vijay Aggarwal, managing director of the company.

ACC announces 19% net profit increase in 1Q18

India's ACC has announced a 19 per cent YoY increase in net profit to INR2.5bn (US$38m) for the 1Q18. Two manufacturers have been fined INR24,000 (US$363.30) for selling underweight cement bags in Pulwama, south Kashmir, according to the United News of India. In India the landed cost of petcoke could increase by 5.6 per cent as a result of the import duty hike, reports Nirmal Bang Institutional Equities. The import duty on the fuel was raised in December 2017, increasing from 2.5 to 10 per cent. Vicat is to invest some EUR223m in its Indian operations. Of this, EUR60m will be spend on a 1.75Mta grinding centre at Vizianagam in Andhra Pradesh for completion by the middle of 2022.
