Asian Fine Cements Ltd has has launched its own flagship brand, Duraton Cement, having invested in a 1.5Mta greenfield cement plant in Rajpura, Punjab, India. Birla Corp is planning to roll-out its premium-brand product, Perfect, across all regions of India apart from the South. Ramco Cement Ltd’s plans to establish a new cement plant in Jajpur district, Odisha, India, have resulted in 1500 local villagers organising a protest. LafargeHolcim will strengthen its presence in India with the construction of a new cement plant in Marwar Mundawa, in the state of Rajasthan. The CHF200m (US$213.4m) investment will serve customers in the north, including Delhi. Ambuja Cements Ltd posts 89% leap in 4Q17 profits

Ambuja Cements Ltd (LafargeHolcim Group) has reported an 89 per cent jump in quarterly profit, helped by higher cement sales volume. Stand-alone profit rose to INR3.38bn (US$52.2m) in the fourth quarter ended 31 December 2017, from INR1.79bn a year earlier. Cement sales volume rose to 5.87Mt in the quarter, from 5Mt in the 4Q16. Net quarterly sales advanced 19 per cent YoY to INR26.12bn.

Shree Cement has commissioned a 2Mta grinding plant called the 'New Bihar cement plant', which is located at Aurangabad in the state of Bihar, India. The company has recently commissioned its Bangur cement grinding unit. The new plant has capacity of 3.6Mta and is located at Village Rohi Udaipur Udasar, Sriganganagar district, Rajasthan. Currently, Shree Cement's manufacturing operations are located in six north and eastern India states.

Shree Cement has commissioned a new grinding unit in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. The new facility has a capacity of 3.6Mta. In the 3Q17 the company reported a net profit increase of 41.6 per cent YoY to INR3.33bn (US$52.1m) and 23.1 per cent growth in net sales to INR22.96bn.

Indian cement sees growth in industrial production table

The Indian cement industry shows recovery in production during the current financial year contrary to last financial year. According to the Indian Economic Survey 2017-18, which tracks output of the country's eight core industries, the domestic cement sector saw a production growth of 0.6 per cent during the period April-November 2017-18.
