APC members see May sales fall 13%

Moroccan cement deliveries stable in April

Cement deliveries in Morocco remained stable in April 2019 at 1.241Mt when compared with the 1.233Mt sold in April 2018, according to the country’s Ministry of Urbanisation and Housing. Of this total, sales in the distribution segment, the largest domestic market, fell by 4.1 per cent YoY, but those in the ready-mix sector, the second-largest segment, advanced by 15.8 per cent to 211,949t. Morocco’s cement market expanded by 13.7 per cent to 1,278,216t in March 2019 when compared with 1,124,152t in March 2018, according to the country's Ministry of Urbanisation and Housing. In the first quarter of 2019, cement demand increased 7.8 per cent YoY to 3,567,943t from 3,308,935t in 1Q18.

LafargeHolcim Maroc appoints new Chairman of the Board

Lafargeholcim Maroc has appointed Ali Fassi Fihri, former chief executive of the National Office for Drininking Water and Electricity (ONEE), to chairman of the board. Mr Fihri, who was dismissed from ONEE by King Mohammed VI in October 2017, now replaces Tarafa Maraouane, who resigned from his position.

Moroccan demand increases 4% in February

Morocco’s cement market expanded by 4.3 per cent in February to 1,115,641t from 1,069,926t in February 2018, according to the country’s Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. The latest data indicates a modest deceleration of market growth when compared with January, when demand increased by 5.3 per cent YoY. In the first two months of 2019, domestic consumption advanced by 4.8 per cent to 2,289,727t from January-February 2018, when demand reached 2,184,783t.

Moroccan cement consumption rises to 1.17Mt in January

Cement sales in Morocco edged up to 1.17Mt in January 2019 from 1.11Mt in January 2017, according to the country’s cement association, APC. The rise in demand, which follows a market contraction of 3.7 per cent in 2018, has been welcomed with one operator commenting: “The recovery of the cement market is comforting. We hope that this upward trend will continue in the coming months.”

Demand for cement in Morocco has fallen 3.7 per cent YoY in 2018 to 13.287Mt, from 13.791Mt in 2017, according to data from the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism. Cement sales in Morocco increased by 20.1 per cent YoY to 1.043Mt in September 2018 from 0.688Mt in September 2017, according to data from the Ministry of Urbanisation and Housing. In the first nine months of 2018, cement demand has fallen 2.7 per cent YoY to 9.799Mt from 10.07Mt in 9M17. Ciments du Maroc reports 1H turnover down 4%

Ciments du Maroc posted a 1H18 turnover of MAD1.94bn, a 4.2 per cent decrease when compared with the same period in 2016. The sales volume of the company and its subsidiary Indusaha fell 2.6 per cent with domestic demand 2.9 per cent over the period. The gross operating surplus was MAD1bn, up 9.3 per cent as operating performance improved. Operating income rose faster than EBITDA (+12.5 per cent) to MAD739m. Net profit was down 5.1 per cent to MAD573m.
