Moroccan market expands 8% in July

Cement demand in Morocco increased 7.8 per cent YoY to 1,298,479t in July 2018 from 1,204,101t in the previous year, according to data from the country's Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. In the largest market, Casablanca-Settat, consumption edged up by 3.8 per cent to 282,680t. Sales in Marrakech-Safi, the second-largest consuming region, rose by 20.9 per cent to 180,131t. Moroccan cement consumption fell 2.9 per cent in the first half of 2018 to 6.57Mt when compared with 1H17. However, in June alone, domestic demand increased by 13 per cent from 721,846t in June 2017 to 815,842t.

Moroccan cement sales fell by 4.8 per cent to 5.76Mt in the first five months of 2018 from 6.05Mt in the 5M17, according to the APC, the country’s cement association. The Casablanca-Settat market was down 6.7 per cent to 1.24Mt, but in Marrakech, the second-largest market. cement sales recovered by 8.4 per cent to 808,561t. The Association Professionnelle des Cimentier (APC) of Morocco has appointed Taraga Marouane, chairman of the Board of LafargeHolcim Morocco, as its new chairman. Moroccan cement consumption contracts 6% in 4M18

Moroccan cement demand has fallen 5.7 per cent in the first four months of 2018, according to the country’s Department of Studies and Financial Forecasts, Ministry of Economy and Finance. The decline in cement sales reflects the moderate decline in April, when sales fell by 2.3 per cent following a 15.1 per cent fall in March. The drop has been attributed to heavy rains.

CIMAF plans 0.3Mta works at Bouaké

Morocco-based CIMAF plans to build a 0.3Mta cement plant at Bouaké, northern Côte dIvoire. "The Bouaké plant has a capacity of 300,000t. Moroccan cement demand declined 15.1 per cent YoY in March 2018 to 1,124,152t from 1,324,221t in the third month of 2017, according to the latest data from the country's Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation.
