Moroccan cement deliveries increased 7.9 per cent YoY to 1,244,689t in September 2020 from 1,154,101 in the year-ago period, according to data by the Ministry of Urbanisation and Housing. The infrastructure sector saw its deliveries rise by 36 per cent to 58,170t while building increased its offtake by 6.7 per cent to 58,187t. Cement consumption in Morocco increased 19.4 per cent YoY to 865,681t in August 2020 from 725,359t in August 2019, according to data published by the country’s Ministry of Urbanisation and Habitat. However, in the first eight months of 2020 demand fell by 15.8 per cent YoY from 8,883,681t in the 7M19 to 7,482,031t in January-August 2020.

Cement deliveries in Morocco fell 24.1 per cent YoY to 1,073,755t in July 2020 from 1,415,075t in July 2019, reports the Ministry of Urbanisation and Housing. In the January-July 2020 period, deliveries declined 19.5 per cent YoY to 6,547,485t when compared with 8,132,157t in the 7M19.

Cement sales in Morocco increased 33 per cent MoM in June, according to the Department of Studies and Financial Forecasts of the country’s Ministry of Economy, Finance and Administrative Reform. Cement consumption in Morocco increased 33 per cent YoY to 1,129,708t in June 2020 when compared with June 2019, when demand stood at 849,524t, according to data by the country's cement association, APC. However, in the first half year of 2020 domestic sales fell 18.5 per cent YoY to 5.473Mt, down from 6.718Mt reported in the 1H19.

Morocco’s cement market contracted 50.6 per cent in May with 523,848t of cement delivered to domestic customers, according to APC, the country’s cement association. In May 2019 deliveries by APC members (Asment Temara, Ciments de l’Atlas, Ciments du Maroc and LafargeHolcim Maroc) reached 1,060,372. Ciments du Maroc sees turnover down 10% in 1Q20

Ciments du Maroc (HeidelbergCement) reported a 9.9 per cent YoY drop in cement sales volumes in the first quarter of 2020 as the coronavirus pandemic affected the market.  The company’s turnover declined 9.8 per cent YoY to MAD869m. Investments in the 1Q20 reached MAD14.8m, up 43.4 per cent when compared with the 1Q19.

Moroccan cement dispatches contract 56% in April

Morocco’s cement deliveries saw 55.5 per cent drop to 552,472t in April 2020 from 1,241,463t in April 2019, according to the members of the country’s cement association, APC. In the first four months of 2020, dispatches declined by 20.6 per cent to 3.919Mt from 4.808Mt in the 4M2019. APC members are Votorantim-owned Asment Temara, Ciments de l’Atlas, Ciments du Maroc (HeidelbergCement) and LafargeHolcim Maroc with a combined cement capacity of approximately 24Mta.

Cement deliveries by APC members in Morocco fell 28.7 per cent YoY to 910,995t in March 2020 when compared with 1,278,486t in March 2019, according to market research company, IPSOS. The building sector was particularly hit with a 44.7 per cent YoY drop to 42,912t, but the retail and prefabricated segments also noted declines of 30 per cent to 582,738t and 78,214t, respectively. The unaudited consolidated turnover of Ciments du Maroc slipped by 0.8 per cent YoY to MAD3.89bn (US$405.8m) in 2019 despite an improvement in the cement market. The fall was due to a decline in concrete sales, which offset the positive development of cement sales, said the company.
