LafargeHolcim Le Havre site up for sale

Installed in 1969 along the canal in the industrial port area of Le Havre, the former LafargeHolcim cement plant is being dismantled. The plant had been converted in 2016 to a centre for grinding imported clinker. A call for expression of interest has been launched by Haropa port to find a buyer for the 24.3ha site. Deadline for applications is 11 March 2022, with a possible award scheduled during the summer.

Dalmia Cement (Bharat) petitions against plant closure orders

Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd (DCBL), a wholly-owned material subsidiary of Dalmia Bharat Ltd has received an order dated 19 January 2022, from the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) for the closure of one of its cement plants at Kadapa , Andhra Pradesh. “DCBL has already challenged the said order by way of filing a Writ Petition before the Honourable HC of Andhra Pradesh,” the company said in a filing on Monday.

Clinker shortage result in surge in Mozambique prices

Due to a shortage in clinker supply, prices of cement in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, have surged. Retail prices of cement are now priced at MZM700-800/50kg, up from MZM500-520/bag. The lack of clinker is caused by challenges in maritime navigation, which has impacted clinker imports in Cabo Delgado and northern Mozambique, according to Club of Mozambique. India's government urged to reopen cement works

India’s Union government has been urged by a Telangana state minister to revive Adilabad's Cement Corp of India (CCI) plant in the state. In a letter to Heavy Industries Minister, Mahendra Nath Pandey, a request was made for the reopening of the plant which has remained closed since 1996. Cameroon’s Minister of Commerce threatens to shut down Cimencam plant

Cameroon’s Minister of Commerce, Luc Mbarga Atangana has informed LafargeHolcim’s Cameroon subsidiary Cimencam it will shut down the cement plant if it proceeds to increase its prices unilaterally.   If the price increase goes ahead, Mr Mbarga Atangana has said that he will see himself “in the obligation to order the installation of seals on your installations.” Cement is a product that is subject to the preliminary price approval procedure.      

Zuari Cement cleared to resume operations

After being issued with a closure order by the Pollution Control Board last month, India’s Zuari Cement has filed a challenge to the Andhra Pradesh High Court. After hearing the petition, the court dismissed the closure order but noted that the company would still need to implement the board’s instructions by the end of May.

Holcim Philippines reports 81% rise in net income

Holcim Philippines reported an 81 per cent rise in net income to PHP909.35m (US$18.79m) in the first quarter of 2021, compared to PHP501.54m in the year-ago period. Zuari Cement issued with closure order

Zuari Cement’s operations in Yerraguntla, Kadapa, has been issued with a closure order by India’s Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB). The closure orders were issued to the company for failing to abide by the environmental conditions prescribed by the pollution control board, according to the New Indian Express. As a result, the APPCB has asked the local power distributor to disconnect power connectivity to the plant.

LafargeHolcim to close Contes cement line

LafargeHolcim will shut down cement production at its Contes plant in the Alpes-Maritimes region of France. Aggregate production at the site will not be affected by the reorganisation. A reorganisation plant was presented to the company’s social partners on 3 February. It is expected that 65 direct job and approximately 300 indirect jobs will be impacted by the closure is scheduled for the start of 2022.
