Colombian cement market expands 5% in October

Cement dispatches in Colombia increased 5.2 per cent YoY to 1.169Mt in October 2020 when compared with 1.111Mt delivered in October 2019, according to the national statistics agency, DANE. The rise was supported by an increase in the retail segment, where dispatches were up by 10.6 per cent YoY. GICA to export clinker to Dominican Republic and Haiti

GICA will export 41,000t of clinker to the Dominican Republic and Haiti as it seeks new markets in Latin America, the company announced in a statement sent to EFE. It will also ship 60,000t of clinker to Côte d’Ivoire from the Hadjar Soud plant in Skikda. Clinker dispatches via Paraguay River return

Cement production is expected to recover from this week as clinker supply via the Paraguay River is returning to normal this week, reports Hoy. This will enable Industria Nacional del Cemento to increase cement production to more than 30,000 bags/day as the company’s clinker supply is more efficient. "Clinker production moves through the river and the land efficiency is not the same," said Ernesto Benítez, INC president, mentioning that production is more significant using river transport.

Howden’s successful retrofit in South America

Early in 2020, Howden responded to a call from a cement plant in Brazil to retrofit a fan for reduced energy consumption. Peruvian cement producers dispatched 1.255Mt of cement in October 2020, up 16.4 per cent YoY, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. In October 2019 dispatches reached 1.078Mt. Brazil’s cement market expanded 14.5 per cent YoY in October 2020 with demand at 6Mt, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. The southeast, the country’s largest market, saw sales increased by 9.4 per cent YoY to 2.702Mt in October, while in the northeast deliveries advanced 16.3 per cent to 1.275Mt. Argentina’s Loma Negra has seen its net revenue decrease 4.5 per cent YoY to ARS10.756bn (US$143m) in the third quarter of 2020, compared with ARS11.26bn in the year-ago period. Holcim contracts YPF as fuel supplier

YPF signed an agreement to supply natural gas and petcoke to Holcim’s plants in Malagueño (Córdoba), Campana (Buenos Aires province), Capdeville (Mendoza) and Puesto Viejo (Jujuy), Argentina. The duration of the agreement is two years and will supply all of Holcim Argentina’s natural gas and petcoke supplies, according to CE Noticias Financieras. LafargeHolcim restarts Pedro Leopoldo kiln lines

After four years, LafargeHolcim has restarted the two kiln lines at its Pedro Leopoldo plant in Brazil. The work to resume the kiln Line 1 involved more than 100 professionals from various areas and were completed within the goals of time, quality, financial resource.   The Pedro Leopoldo cement plant has a cement capacity of 2.2Mta and is situated in Minas Gerais, Brazil.  

Bolivian market contracts 33% YoY in August

Cement consumption in Bolivia edged up 7.4 per cent MoM from 231,662t in July 2020 to 248,852t in August 2020, according to the country’s statistics agency, INE. When compared with August 2019, demand fell 32.7 per cent from 369,520t. Cement production in domestic cement plants slipped 2.6 per cent MoM from 256,231t in July 2020 to 249,579t in August. When compared with August 2019, the drop was 30.4 per cent from 358,461t.
