Colombian cement dispatches fell 7.6 per cent to 0.905Mt in June 2020 when compared with 0.979Mt in June 2019, according to data provided by the country’s statistical office, DANE. Sales of bagged cement fell 3.1 per cent YoY while bulk cement deliveries were down 16.8 per cent in June 2020. Cemex sales decline by 10% in 2Q20

Cemex reported significant disruption from COVID-19 in 2Q20. Sales declined by 10 per cent YoY and EBITDA fell by six per cent to US$554m. These decreases were attributed to lockdown measures. Holcim Argentina has named Victor Mariaca as new commercial director. Mr Mariaca held previously commercial positions within Holcim, including regional commercial manager. He has also led commercial development at Grupo Herdez and Clorox in Mexico. Argos delivers masks and biosafety kits

Argos has been delivering 23,000 face masks to construction and hardware customers throughout Colombia as well as biosafety kits to business customers. The biosafety kits consist of thermometers and floor charts, for social distancing, and a digital application to monitor health conditions at points of sale to prevent the spread of COVID-19. While cement demand in Peru rebounded in June 2020 to 678,000t when compared with 298,000t sold in May 2020, it remained 26.1 per cent below demand reported in June 2019 as the impact of the coronavirus pandemic continue to be felt, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Cement sales in Brazil rose 24.2 per cent YoY in June 2020. Domestic offtake reached 5.2Mt in June, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Scotiabank forecasts a recovery in Peruvian cement consumption with 3Q demand expected to be close to 2Mt, double the demand reported in 2Q. Cement consumption in Bolivia has declined 34.2 per cent YoY in the 4M20 as a result of the quarantine imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Bolivian statistics agency, INE. Construction work on the new state-owned Potosí cement works in Bolivia will resume in July, according to House of Representatives member Gonzalo Barrientos.
