Bolivian market contracts 33% YoY in August

Cement consumption in Bolivia edged up 7.4 per cent MoM from 231,662t in July 2020 to 248,852t in August 2020, according to the country’s statistics agency, INE. When compared with August 2019, demand fell 32.7 per cent from 369,520t. Cement production in domestic cement plants slipped 2.6 per cent MoM from 256,231t in July 2020 to 249,579t in August. When compared with August 2019, the drop was 30.4 per cent from 358,461t.

Argentina’s cement consumption picked up by 12.7 per cent YoY in October 2020 as it increased to 1,070,118t (October 2019: 948,931t), according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Cement dispatches in Colombia increased to 1.131Mt in September 2020, up 4.9 per cent from 1.078Mt in September 2019, according to DANE, the national statistics office. Chilean market contraction slows in 3Q

Chilean cement dispatches fell 13 per cent to 868,487t in July-September 2020 from 998,291t in the 3Q19, according to the country’s chamber of construction, CChC. The latest data show a deceleration of the drop in consumption experienced in the second quarter of 2020. Peru's Cementos Pacasmayo saw its sales volume of cement, concrete and precast rise 14.2 per cent YoY to 819,700t in the third quarter of 2020, reaching historical record levels, mainly due to a sharp recovery in sales of cement. Cemex exported 9% of Mexican output in 2019

Cemex exported nine per cent of its Mexican cement sales in 2019. according to CE NAFTA 2.0. The company’s data show that 67 per cent of exports were delivered to US customers while the remaining 33 per cent were shipped to other Latin American countries. Exports were mainly in the form of cement although the company also shipped some clinker.

Anita and Loreto Briones Goich of ALB SpA have sold their entire 19 per cent stake in Cementos Bío Bío, the cement company founded by their father, Hernán Briones Gorostiaga in 1957.
