Brazil's cement market expanded 34.2 per cent to 5.48Mt in March 2021 when compared with March 2020, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Market growth was the strongest in the south, where sales increased 45.3 per cent YoY from 682,000t to 991,000t in March 2021, followed by sales in the northeast, which expanded by 43.6 per cent to 1,127,000t from 785,000t. Cement deliveries in Uruguay saw a 33.8 per cent YoY advance in March 2021 to 71,027t from 53,083t in March 2020. This follows a 6.8 per cent increase to 65,680t in February and a 9.3 per cent uptick to 53,268t in January 2021, according to the country’s cement association, Asociación de Fabricantes de Cemento Portland del Uruguay (AFCPU). ECEBOL signs contract for natural gas supply

ECEBOL's new plant in Potosí, Bolivia, is expected to be supplied with natural gas by Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) through an 8km pipeline that will connect YPFB’s Transporte system with the cement factory. Argentina's cement market expands by 94% in March

Cement demand in Argentina surged by 94 per cent YoY to 974,391t in March 2021 from a low base of 502,368t in March 2020, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. The market was entirely supplied by domestic production, which advanced by 93.5 per cent from 508,402t to 983,911t over the same period. Bolivian market contracts 24% in January

Cement consumption in Bolivia saw a 24.1 per cent drop to 230,317t in January 2021 from 303,619t in January 2020, according to Bolivia’s national statistics institute, INE. A MoM fall of 29.8 per cent was noted when compared with a demand of 328,064t in December 2020. Bolivian cement production declined 38.9 per cent from 392,217 in January 2020 to 239,663t in January 2021. When compared with December 2020, a 25.8 per cent drop from 322,876t was reported.

Cement dispatches in Colombia increased 5.3 per cent to 1.079Mt in February 2021 when compared with 1.025Mt in February 2020, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE. The price of a 50kg bag of cement in Argentina saw a five per cent increase to ARS820 (US$8.90) on 3 April 2021, according to El Liberal newspaper. The latest price rise has seen prices increase cumulatively by 20 per cent since December 2019.

Paraguay’s INC sets 70,000bags/day output target

Paraguay-based Industria Nacional de Cemento (INC) reported that the production of cement at its Vallemí plant is normalising at nearly 50,000 bags/day. The state-owned cement producer currently has a production target of 70,000 bags/day. Interoceanicos to build cement plant in Puno

Peru-based Cementos Interoceanicos has signed an agreement with Satarem to build a 1Mta cement and two lime plants in Puno, Peru, in the next 18 months. The cement producer expects to enter the area’s cement and lime markets in the next two years. The project represents an investment of US$158m. Satarem aims to have a 30 per cent stake in the shareholding of Cementos Interoceanicos as a result of the agreement.

Chile’s cement demand increased 4.4 per cent to 346,463t in January 2021 when compared with January 2020, when demand reached 331,783t, according to CChC, the Chilean construction chamber. However, when compared with December 2020, consumption fell by 5.1 per cent from 364,925t.
