Chile-based Cemento Polpaico reported a surge in consolidated revenues from CLP76,528m in the 1H20 to CLP152,376m in the 1H21. Profit before tax reached CLP9361m, reversing a loss of CLP8424m in the 1H20. Net profit reached CLP6833m in the 1H21, from a loss of CLP5862 in the 1H20. Peru’s cement market grew 26 per cent YoY to 1.135Mt in July 2021, compared with 0.904Mt in the year-ago period, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Cement production also advanced 29 per cent to 1.063Mt in July 2021 against 0.821Mt in the same month of 2020. Compared to July 2019, production climbed 24 per cent from 0.858Mt. Argentina's Loma Negra has reported a 46.6 per cent YoY increase in net revenue to ARS14.269bn (US$147m) in the quarter ending 30 June 2021, mostly driven by its cement segment. Cement sales in Brazil remained almost level in July 2021 at 5.9Mt, representing a 0.1 per cent YoY increase from 5.897Mt in July 2020, according to SNIC, the industry’s professional body. All regional markets, except for the South, showed small to moderate contractions. Chilean cement consumption advanced 66.7 per cent YoY in June 2021 to 355,851t when compared with the 233,186t reported in June 2020 and by 21.9 per cent when compared with June 2019, according to the Chilean Construction Chamber, CChC. In the January-June 2021 period, dispatches were up 20.5 per cent YoY to 2,145,846t from 1,781,388t in the 1H20. When compared with the first six months of 2019, when dispatches reached 2,065,205t there was a 3.9 advance.

Argentina’s cement consumption increased 20.9 per cent YoY and 8.5 per cent MoM to 1,043,388Mt in July 2021 from 862,675t in July 2020 and from 961,512t in June 2021, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Cement consumption in Colombia reached 1.072Mt in June 2021, up 18.4 per cent when compared with 0.905Mt in June 2021 and by 9.5 per cent per cent when compared with 0.979Mt reported in June 2019, according to DANE, the country’s statistics office. Bolivian cement demand advanced 125 per cent to 295,026t in May 2021 when compared with the low base of 131,101t in May 2020, according to Bolivia’s statistics office, INE.
