Chilean market contraction slows in 3Q

Chilean cement dispatches fell 13 per cent to 868,487t in July-September 2020 from 998,291t in the 3Q19, according to the country’s chamber of construction, CChC. The latest data show a deceleration of the drop in consumption experienced in the second quarter of 2020. Peru's Cementos Pacasmayo saw its sales volume of cement, concrete and precast rise 14.2 per cent YoY to 819,700t in the third quarter of 2020, reaching historical record levels, mainly due to a sharp recovery in sales of cement. Cemex exported 9% of Mexican output in 2019

Cemex exported nine per cent of its Mexican cement sales in 2019. according to CE NAFTA 2.0. The company’s data show that 67 per cent of exports were delivered to US customers while the remaining 33 per cent were shipped to other Latin American countries. Exports were mainly in the form of cement although the company also shipped some clinker.

Cement price in Paraguay continues to rise

A cement shortage in Paraguay has resulted in another price rise. Bulk CCPII F40 cement, sold by Yguazu Cementos, used in the production of industrial concrete, has seen a 10.7 per cent increase in price since the start of the year and now costs PYG974,000/t (US$138.88), according to ABC Color. Briones sisters sell Bío Bío stake to Gloria Group

Anita and Loreto Briones Goich of ALB SpA have sold their entire 19 per cent stake in Cementos Bío Bío, the cement company founded by their father, Hernán Briones Gorostiaga in 1957. The shares were sold for approximately US$46.8m to the Peruvian Gloria Group. Cementos Bío Bío includes CBB, Inacesa, Ready Mix and Inacal and has a presence in Chile, Argentina and Peru. INC raises cement price

Paraguayan cement producer INC has increased the price of a bag of cement by PYG2500 (US$0.42). The company is now selling cement for PYG39,800/bag. The company has attributed the need to increase cement prices due to higher transport costs. The low water level in the Paraguay river has led to the need to use trucks to move raw materials and has also resulted in cement shortages in the country. INC is aiming to maintain supply at 35,000-40,000 bags/day.

Peru's cement producers see 10% rise in local dispatches in September

Cement consumption in Peru remained largely stable at 1.018Mt in September 2020 when compared with August 2020 and increased 10 per cent YoY. Of this total, local dispatches accounted for 1.001Mt, representing a 7.3 per cent rise MoM and a 10.4 per cent increase YoY, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. Cement sales in Brazil saw a 21.4 per cent hike to 5.8Mt in September 2020  when compared with September 2019, according to SNIC, the country’s cement association. Sales per working day were 250,500t, up 18.5 per cent YoY and 2.5 per cent MoM. Cement demand in Argentina increased 10.5 per cent to 1,037,499t in September 2020, as shown by the monthly report of the country’s cement association, AFCP.
