Akhangarancement exports cement

Akhangarancement exported cement for US$2.41 million this year. The cement was delivered to Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan. Akhangarancement is located 65 km South East of Tashkent. It is the second largest cement plant in Uzbekistan both in terms of capacity and production level. Annual production capacity is 1,736,000 tonnes. It operates with four production lines, using wet process. The company produces 3000-3500 tonnes of cement per day, UzA reported.

The Vietnam Cement Association has reported a strong increase in cement sales through Jan-Oct., a trend expected to continue over the two last months of this year. Local cement producers sold more than 23.3Mt of cement in the period, equivalent to 78 per cent of the whole year’s target. Colombian exports of cement and clinker stood at US$83m in the third quarter of 2005, up 13 per cent year-on-year, it was reported on October 26, 2005.  Cement and clinker exports totalled 1.8Mt between July and September 2005.  The combined operating revenue of Colombian cement producers stood at 675 bln Colombian pesos (US$294.76m) for the first nine months of 2005. Cementos del Caribe is the largest Colombian cement maker at present. 

Italcementi jv buys 2nd cement carrier

Italcementi SpA said it bought MV White Shark, a cement carrier with a net transport capacity of 29,000dwt.   The new ship was acquired through Medcem, Italcementi’s 50:50 joint venture with logistics partner Gruppo Romeo, for an overall investment of about US$23m, it said in a statement.  The cement maker first entered in the shipping business in April when Medcem launched MV Turbocem, a 5500dwt carrier in which it invested Euro 6.5m.
