At the request of the federal mediator, Hawaiian Cement has agreed to resume contract talks with the union representing 20 of its workers, said Michael Coad, company vice president and chief negotiator. Nine-month export of cement hits 386,000t

Some 386,000 tons of cement, valued at $20.1m, was exported from Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2005). This showed 12% increase (in terms of weight) in comparison with the same period last year. In the same period, Iran Customs Administration registered export of a total of $192.5 million of building materials to set 54.7% increase. Freight turnover of Kunda port falls

The freight turnover of Estonia`s Kunda port owned by Kunda Nordic Tsement (Kunda Nordic Cement) fell by 15.4 percent to 1.21Mt last year compared with 2004. A total of 454 ships called at the port, 14.7 per cent fewer than the year before. Carriage of the biggest group of freight, round timber, declined by 10.5 percent to 582,754 tons. Savinsky Cement: production up in 2005

Following the results of 2005 Savinskiy Cement Plant JSC (the Arkhangelsk region, incorporated in Eurocement Group) raised the output of cement by over eight per cent to 710,000t. The plant’s rated capacity is 1.4Mt. The products are shipped to the Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Leningrad, Kirov, Murmansk, Pskov, Kostroma, Yaroslavl regions and Komi republic, the company reported in a press release.

TN scraps dual sales tax on cement

The Tamil Nadu government today issued orders scrapping the dual sales tax system on cement and levying a uniform tax of 14 per cent on all grades of cement at the first point of sale. This is against the earlier rate of 16-24 per cent depending on the selling price. Iranian company builds floating silos for cement shipment

An Iranian company in Arak has devised a new method to carry cement across the Caspian sea from Iran to customers in neighbouring countries. It makes use of containers similar to floating silos. Azarab Industries Company (AIC) has managed to install the silos on a number of floating platforms or barges for an Iranian shipping company.
