Carthage Cement reports TND76m net loss

Tunisian cement producer Carthage Cement Co announced a loss of TND76m (US$26.7m) for the year ended 31 December 2018, compared to a loss of TND69m in the previous year. The company managed to reduce its operating deficit by nearly TND4m, the net financial charges rose from TND49.4m in 2017 to TND65m at the end of December 2018. Operating expenses increased 32 per cent YoY to 262.9m as consumable purchases rose. Personnel changes remained almost unchanged at TND28.5m.

PPC's group revenue impacted by Zimbabwe

PPC announced a group revenue of ZAR4.9bn (US$330.1m) and group EBITDA of ZAR868m for the six months ended 30 September 2019. Group revenue was down 12 per cent on results from the six-month period at ZAR5.6bn, which was attributed to a 17 per cent volume decline in group cement volumes. Breedon Group Plc has released results for the first 10 months to 31 October 2019 with revenues up by eight per cent to approximately GBP800m. Semen Indonesia Group, including SBI, reported a 40.8 per cent rise in sales volumes to 4,771,181t in October 2019 when compared with a volume of 3,388,174t in October 2018. Taiwan Cement's net profit last quarter rose 10.17 per cent annually to NT$6.54bn (US$214.4m). Net profit in 9M19 increased by 11.14 per cent to NT$17.72bn (US$580.9m), a company record. Pakistan-based Thatta Cement Co Ltd is currently implementing its waste heat recovery project that will generate 5MW of electricity for the company at its Sindh plant. Egypt’s Arabian Cement Co has reported an 85 per cent YoY fall in profit to EGP32.9m (US$2.04m) in the first nine months of 2019, compared to EGP214.8m in the year-ago period. The company’s standalone results declined to EGP32.58m in the 9M19, down from EGP215.1m in the corresponding period of 2018.

Egypt’s Misr Beni Suef Cement has noted a 72 per cent YoY profit decline to EGP67.11m (US$4.16m) in the first nine months of 2019, against EGP237.8m in the 9M18. Revenues were also down 6.2 per cent YoY to EGP1.36bn from EGP1.45bn in the January-September 2018 period.

Egypt’s Sinai Cement has seen its net loss widen 30 per cent YoY to EGP331.22m (US$20.53m) during the first nine months of 2019, compared to EGP293.14m in the 9M18. The cost of sales also showed a modest 3.7 per cent increase to EGP699.931m from EGP675.11m. In the 1H19 the company’s consolidated loss widened to EGP187.23m from EGP155.74m in the corresponding period of 2018.
