Chilean cement market contracts 9% in February

Cement dispatches in Chile declined by 9.3 per cent in February 2022 to 318,964t from 351,735t in February 2021, according to the Chilean cement and construction chamber, CChCC. MoM the decline was 8.1 per cent from 347,211t in January 2022. In the first two months of 2022 total domestic dispatches reached 666,175t, down 4.6 per cent YoY when compared with 698,198t in the 2M21.

Colombian cement market expands 3% in February

Domestic dispatches in Colombia edged up by 2.6 per cent to 1.107Mt in February 2022 from 1.079Mt in February 2021, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE. In the January-February 2022 period, Uzbekistan’s Commodity Exchange has traded 943,500t of cement, of which 864,300t, or 91.6 per cent, were sold at an average price of UZS546,700/t. The average monthly sales volume reached 432,200t. Total domestic cement sales in Vietnam reached 3,538,333t in February 2022, up 39 per cent YoY but down 14 per cent when compared with January 2022, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Cement dispatches in Peru reached 1.088Mt in February 2022, up five per cent when compared with February 2021, according to the Peruvian cement association, Asocem. The total includes shipments by Asocem members (1.018Mt) and non-affiliated cement producers, which accounted for around 70,000t. Cement consumption in Spain increased 14 per cent YoY to 1,269,455t, representing the best sales in February in the last five years, according to Oficemen, the Spanish cement association. “The cement industry is experiencing an energy emergency situation. In February 2022 cement sales in Puerto Rico declined 13.3 per cent YoY to 1.18m bags of 94lb, or 50,312t, according to Puerto Rico’s Institute of Statistics. However, cement output increased 4.1 per cent YoY to 26,478t. Production had been falling for eight of the last 10 months, reports Sin Comillas.

Iran's cement market expands 5% MoM in February

Iranian cement consumption reached 4.43Mt in February 2022, supplied entirely by the domestic industry, according to the Iranian Cement Association. This represents a 5.2 per cent increase when compared with January 2022. While cement production stood at 4.43Mt (+5.2 per cent MoM), clinker output reached 4.83Mt (-7.6 per cent MoM). The country exported 1.084Mt of clinker and 0.326Mt of cement in February 2022, representing MoM increases of 33.8 and 35.8 per cent, respectively.
