Cement consumption in Sri Lanka increased by 25.3 per cent YoY in 2016, to 7.99Mt from 6.37Mt. The Argentine cement market expanded 6.8 per cent YoY in December 2017 with demand at 1,004,332t, according to the latest data by the country’s cement association, AFCP. In December 2016 national demand stood at 940,055t. However, when compared with November 2017, the market contracted by 14.9 per cent. Cement production in Vietnam reached 80Mt in 2017, up six per cent on the year before, according to local press reports. This figure was recorded by the Department of Construction Material under the Ministry of Construction. Total Portland and blended cement shipments in the USA and Puerto Rico in October increased 4.9 per cent YoY in October 2017, according to data from the US Geological Survey (USGS). Cement consumption in Peru totalled 0.902Mt in November, representing a 2.5 per cent YoY rise but a MoM drop of 2.5 per cent, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. The government of Uzbekistan has approved a balance of production and consumption of cement for 2018. The country plans to produce 9.198Mt of cement in 2018, with Uzstroymateriali to produce 7.775Mt. Cement demand in Morocco increased 5.2 per cent YoY in November 2017 to 1,274,165t from 1,211,298t in October 2016, according to data by the country's Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. Cement plants in Pakistan reached 94.65 per cent capacity utilisation during the July-November period of 2017, according to The Nation. In November 2017 the country recorded a 9.89 per cent increase in domestic consumption.
