Lafarge Algeria increases cement exports in 1H23

Lafarge Algeria ( Holcim ) has announced improved export results for the 1H23. Thanks to the support of the Algerian authorities and close collaboration with its partners, Lafarge Algeria exported nearly 1.7Mt of products, 39 per cent of which were 'cement' finished products  valuing more than US$80m. Volumes were helped by the start up of the  automatic shiploader at Djenden Port, with 18,000tpd capacity.

Peruvian cement consumption declined by 12 per cent YoY to 0.971Mt in May 2023, according to the country’s cement association, ASOCEM. Iranian cement demand advances 14% in May

Iran’s cement market has expanded by 13.9 per cent to 5.82Mt in May 2023 when compared with May 2022, when 5.11Mt of cement was sold, according to the Iranian Cement Association. Cement and clinker production increased YoY by 18.4 per cent to 6.37Mt and 5.6 per cent to 7.3Mt in May 2023, respectively. Iran’s cement producers exported 0.4Mt of cement in May 2023, up 33.6 per cent YoY, and 0.81Mt of clinker, up 45.7 per cent YoY.

Pakistan cement exports continue mixed trend in 11MFY22-23

The cement industry in Pakistan continued to experience a mixed picture in export revenue during the first 11 months of the current financial year, which runs from July 2022 to June 2023. Senegal's cement consumption fell 22% in April

The Senegalese cement market contracted 22.1 per cent MoM and 10.6 per cent YoY to 525,100t in April 2023, according to the country’s Department for Economic Planning and Policies (DPEE). While exports were down 17.6 per cent MoM in April 2023, when compared with April 2022 they surged 148.8 per cent to 159,200t. Output from domestic cement plants retreated 18.4 per cent MoM but increased by four per cent YoY to 693,500t in April 2023.

Cement sales in Brazil (excluding imports) increased by 1.2 per cent to 5.56Mt in May 2023, when compared with 5.494Mt in May 2022, according to the Brazilian cement association, SNIC. The Argentine cement market contracted 1.5 per cent YoY to 1,072,110t in May 2023, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. In May 2022 domestic consumption reached 1,088,000t. However, MoM demand was up 4.2 per cent from 1,028,598t in April 2023. National Cement (Devki Group) has announced that it will export up to 80 per cent of the clinker it produces when its new West Pokot plant in Kenya starts production. The Iranian cement market expanded 12.5 per cent YoY to 4.5Mt in April 2023, according to the Iranian Cement Association. Domestic cement production stood at 4.89Mt (up 7.2 per cent YoY), while clinker output reached 7.26Mt (+3.9 per cent YoY). In terms of exports, the industry’s performance was more muted. Cement exports declined 8.6 per cent to 0.384Mt when compared with the equivalent period of the previous year. Clinker exports fell by 30 per cent YoY 0.553Mt.
