Vicat's 1H18 turnover improved by 2.7 per cent to EUR1281m, or by 9.6 per cent on a comparative basis. EBITDA advanced by 4.5 per cent to EUR197m, or by 12.3 per cent on a comparative basis, and the margin improved from 15.1 to 15.4 per cent. Ecocem France has opened its new 0.75Mta production plant in Dunkerque, France. Located on a 4ha plot in the Port of Dunkerque, the new facility is equipped with a vertical mill, a mixer and storage facilities. LafargeHolcim France is installing a new blending facility at its Dunkerque Nord grinding plant to increase the unit’s capacity. With equipment supplied by Wamservira will enable the grinding plant to produce low-carbon cement. The EUR3.5m investment is located in the heart of the Port of Dunkerque on a 2.5ha site. LafargeHolcim has started its EUR100m+ investment in its Martres-Tolosane plant in Haute Garonne,  southern France, with completion envisaged in 2020. LafargeHolcim starts Martres-Tolosane modernisation

On Monday, LafargeHolcim announced the start of the modernisation works at its Martres-Tolosane plant in France. The project represents an investment of more than EUR100m. The first phase of civil engineering was awarded to Toulouse-based Eiffage Génie Civil. The next 12 months will see the construction of the foundations of the new preheater tower and kiln line. The allocation of the next contracts will occur in the coming months, said the cement company.

LafargeHolcim announces jobs restructuring at corporate offices

LafargeHolcim has announced proposals to simplify its corporate organisation. Around 200 corporate jobs will go and the corporate offices in Paris and Zurich will close. Remaining positions in Switzerland will be moved to the company's Holderbank site and a new corporate office in Zug. Vicat's 1Q18 turnover showed 3.9 per cent improvement to EUR573m, which represents an underlying advance of 10.8 per cent at constant parameters and exchange rates. Steelmaker ArcelorMittal has increased its shareholding in Ecocem France. By the end of May, ArcelorMittal will hold a 49 per cent stake in the cement company, compared to 30 per cent to date.
