Bestway Cement commissions solar power plant

Pakistan’s Bestway Cement and Reon Energy Ltd commissioned a 14.3MW captive solar power project at the producer’s unit in Farooqia, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The plant is reportedly part of a 50MW project deal dispersed across Bestway’s four locations in Farooqia, Chakwal, Kallar Kahar and Hattar. The new solar power plant is expected to generate around 78,385MWh annually, which would cut around 1Mt of CO 2 equivalent emissions over the lifetime of the project.

Mangalam Cement completes capacity upgrade at Morak

India’s Mangalam Cement has completed a trial run of an expansion project at its Morak plant in Rajasthan. As a result, clinker capacity at the plant has been improved by 300,000tpa and cement by 400,000tpa. Following the upgrades to Morak’s Line I, overall capacity of the company now stands at 4.4Mta.

Panyam Cement prepares to restart operations

India’s Panyam Cement, based in Andhra Pradesh, has received approval from the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) to begin operations once more. The NCLT approved the resolution plan for the defunct company, while its new management (RV Consulting Services Company and Sagar Power Ltd) are set to invest INR1bn (US$13.47m) to clear the loans of the previous management and a further INR1.5bn for fresh capital.

NCL Industries announces expansion plans

India’s NCL Industries has announced an INR3bn (US$40.4m) expansion and modernisation plan to boost its total cement capacity to 3.6Mta by 2022. Cement prices in India’s state of Tamil Nadu have reportedly climbed over the past few months. Builders in the state have claimed a 13 per cent price hike from INR460 (US$6.27)/bag in May to INR520/50kg bag in June, according to The Hindu. JK Cement reports 39% rise in revenue

India’s JK Cement has reported a standalone net profit of INR633.4m (US$8.65m) for the quarter ending 31 March 2021, compared to INR2.3m in the year-ago period. Net revenue also advanced 38.9 per cent YoY to INR20.52bn from INR14.77bn in the 4QFY19-20. The company’s operating profit reached INR4.39bn, up 26.8 per cent from INR3.46bn in the same period of the previous fiscal.

Star Cement reports 10% rise in revenue

India’s Star Cement has reported a 9.8 per cent YoY rise in revenue to INR6.03bn (US$82.53m) for the quarter ending 31 March 2021, compared to INR5.49bn in the year-ago period. Net profit remained largely consistent at INR853m from INR858.3m. The company also reported a 6.7 per cent YoY fall in revenue to INR17.2bn for the FY20-21. MI Cement Factory moves forward with expansion plans

Bangladesh’s MI Cement Factory has reopened its investment plan worth BDT7.70bn (US$91.74m), which will see it set up its sixth production line at its factory in Munshiganj. The new production line will add 8280tpd to its existing capacity of 11000tpd. The company has postponed the project in October last year, but has reversed the decision following the industry’s recovery from the impacts of the pandemic.

Burnpur Cement posts net loss in the March quarter

India’s Burnpur Cement has seen an INR158.7m (US$2.17m) standalone net loss in the January-March quarter of 2021, compared to INR1.25bn in the year-ago period. However, net revenue surged 142 per cent YoY to INR432m from INR178.5m in the 4Q19-20. Operating expenses increased 138.7 per cent YoY to INR421.8m from INR176.7m.
