Research undertaken to increase fly ash in cement

An ongoing research project, carried out by De Salle University in the Philippines, is seeking to use 100 per cent fly ash in cement production in an effort to reduce its carbon footprint. Irish Cement has received permission from An Bord Pleanála to replace fossil fuels at its facilities in Mungret, Limerick, and Platin, Co Meath. Cemex has announced that five of its concrete plants in California have earned Responsible Sourcing Certification from the Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC), becoming the first facilities of any company in the USA to receive this designation.
