Fives Pillard has announced the appointment of Xavier Nicolas as the new managing director of Fives Pillard, in Marseille, France. Mr Nicolas will oversee the operational management of the company and the development of its activity, notably its combustion systems and digital solutions offer to decarbonise the cement and energy industries. Mr Nicolas joined the Fives group two years ago as the managing director of Fives Cryomec in the cryogenics sector.

Saint-Gobain signs Romanian energy deal

Saint-Gobain has signed a five-year renewable electricity supply agreement (power purchase agreement or PPA) in Romania with energy supplier OMV PETROM SA. Vicat sees 8% like-for-like advance in 1Q sales

Vicat reported a 1.2 per cent YoY (+7.9 per cent like for like (lfl)) uptick in consolidated sales to EUR911m in the first quarter of 2024 from EUR899m in the 1Q23. Saint-Gobain sales slip 6% in 1Q24

Saint-Gobain has reported total group sales of EUR11,356m in the first quarter of 2024, down 5.8 per cent from EUR12,406m in the same period a year earlier. According to the company, the decline was due to a contraction in new construction in Europe, but supported by growth in the Americas and Asia-Pacific. Ciments Calcia , part of Heidelberg Materials France , is closing two of its plants as part of a restructuring programme. Saint-Gobain has successfully priced its first double green bond, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable construction. This follows a Sustainability Linked Bond in August 2022 and renewal in December 2023 of its backup revolving credit facility as a Sustainability Linked Loan. Hoffmann Green Cement Technologies has reported revenue of EUR6.04m in 2023, far exceeding its target of EUR4.5m, and marking a notable increase from EUR2.2m in the previous year.
