Norway's EA approves full-scale CCUS plant at Brevik

Norwegian environmental agency, Miljødirektoratet, has approved Norcem ’s plan for a full-scale CO 2 capture plant at the company’s Brevik plant. The environment agency has amended the pollution permit for Norcem Brevik in Porsgrunn municipality, based on an application and consultation process. Norcem ( HeidelbergCement Group ) has opened its new cement terminal in Verdal, Norway. The Hafslund Oslo Celsio CO 2 capture plant in Klemetsrud, Norway, has been started up with CO 2 Solutions technology provided by Saipem. Norcem temporarily halts production at plants

Norway-based Norcem has suspended operations at its Brevik and Kjøpsvik plants due to annual scheduled maintenance work and the crash of a central mill engine at Kjøpsvik. In addition, a supplier who should have carried out some of the maintenance work dropped out. Part of the production has been replaced by imports. CEO John Sunde says the company expects stocks to cleared but was unable to say for how long.

Norcem is investing NOK80m (US$9.53m) at its Kjøpsvik cement plant to help reduce CO 2  emissions.
