Lucky receives power plant financing

Lucky Cement has received financing approval for its power plant at Deh Ghangiaro, Bin Qasim, Karachi. Lucky Electrical Power Co Ltd, a subsidiary of Lucky Cement, applied for the finance to build a 660MW supercritical coal-based power project to supply power to the national grid. The project cost is estimated at US$885m, financed through a debt-to-equity ratio of 75:25. Commercial operation is scheduled to start in March 20121.

Pakistan’s Power Cement has awarded the contract for the design, manufacture and supply of a 132/6.3kV air-insulated switchgear grid station to GE Power. The new grid station will be delivered on a turnkey basis at the cement producer’s existing 0.9Mta Nooriabad plant, where a new line is currently under construction. Arif Habib Group has said that it is going to invest PKR25bn (US$238.5m) in a new cement plant to be completed in the next two years, to be operated by its subsidiary Power Cement. Pakistan-based producer Al Abbas Cement has officially changed its name to Power Cement, the company informed the Karachi Stock Exchange yesterday. The company operates a cement plant in Nooriabad, Dadu, with a clinker and cement capacity of 0.9Mta and 0.95Mta, respectively.
