La Araña cement works to install new crusher

Spain-based La Araña cement plant, owned by FYM-HeidelbergCement, has received approval from the town’s planning department to build a new slate crusher. The EUR3m project is expected to reduce noise and dust emissions from the operations. The new equipment will replace two existing crushers, which are around 60 years old. The assembly of the crusher will start at the beginning of next year with commissioning to follow in summer.

Spanish cement consumption expands 7% YoY in April

The Cement Demand Index, presented by Oficemen, the Spanish cement producers’ association, has registered an increase of 7.1 per cent in April when compared with April 2018. This represents a fall of nearly two percentage points when compared with March 2018, according to the association. Spanish cement producer Cementos Portland Valderrivas (CPV) and the Association for Research and Industrial Cooperation of Andalucía (AICIA) have signed an agreement to jointly conduct research and development work. Spain’s cement demand up 9% in March, exports continue to fall

Spanish cement consumption increased 8.7 per cent YoY in March 2019, according to Oficemen, the domestic cement association. In the rolling 12-month period (April 2018-March 2019) the associations Cement Barometer estimates domestic demand at 13.58Mt, up from 12.48Mt in the April 2017-March 2018 period. Cement demand in Spain, as measured by Oficemen’s Cement Demand Index, has increased 6.1 per cent YoY in February. Cemex has agreed to sell its operations in Latvia, where it owns the 1.6Mta cement plant at Broceni, as well as import and marketing operations in Sweden, where there are four, Finland (three), Norway (four), Estonia (1) and a 38 per cent stake in Lithuania's sole cement plant, to the privately-owned Schwenk Zement for EUR340m. Cement companies purchased 0.3Mt of fly ash from Endesa power station

UK and North American cement companies as well as the nearby LafargeHolcim plant have bought some 0.3Mt of fly ash from the Endesa power station in Carboneras, Spain, in 2018. The fly ash is shipped to overseas customers from the port of Endesa Pucarsa. In addition, Endesa has also sold 30,000t of slag and 60,000t of gypsum from its lime plant.

Cemex has announced that it has reached a binding agreement with Çimsa Çimento to divest its white cement business, including its Buñol plant in Spain, for approximately US$180m. Cemex plans to invest EUR4.85m (US$5.5m) in the construction of a cement plant and distribution centre in Gijón port, Spain.
