Swiss cement sales up 2% in 3Q16

Swiss cement deliveries increased two per cent YoY in 3Q16, according to the Swiss cement association, Cemsuisse. In the first nine months of this year, domestic deliveries advanced 5.1 per cent. In 2015 Swiss cement deliveries reached 4.22Mt for the full year, representing a 7.9 per cent YoY drop from 4.58Mt.

Swiss deliveries up 7% YoY

Domestic cement deliveries in Switzerland increased seven per cent in 2Q16 when compared with the previous year. In April-June 2016 dispatches reached 1.25Mt, according to the latest figures published by Cemsuisse, the Swiss cement association. In the year to date, Swiss sales advanced seven per cent to 2.124Mt when compared with the first six months of 2015.

Holcim gets approval for extension Eclépens quarry

Holcim has received approval to extend the quarry at the Eclépens cement works in Switzerland. The company exploits the La Birette quarry in the Mormont hills, Vaud canton. The extension will allow the cement maker to increase its production capacity and enable production to continue until 2029.

LH confirms Sberbank shareholding

LafargeHolcim Ltd said in a statement yesterday that it was informed on 25 January 2016 by Sberbank of Russia that it holds, through a repurchase transaction with Eurocement Holding AG, 6.12 per cent of the voting rights and of the registered share capital of LafargeHolcim Ltd. This corresponds to 37,172,910 registered shares and voting rights. According to the declaration of Sberbank of Russia, the Stock Exchange Act threshold of five per cent was exceeded on 21 January 2016.

Swiss cement dispatches drop 7.9% YoY in 2015

Cement sales in Switzerland fell 4.2 per cent QoQ in the fourth quarter of 2015, according to domestic cement producers’ association, Cemsuisse. For the full year, deliveries decreased by 7.9 per cent YoY to 4.219Mt. The low-carbon cement segment, particularly CEM II, saw a rise of 90 per cent. In 1995, its market share was limited to six per cent. In terms of transport, 51.1 per cent of dispatches took place via rail.

New Cameroon plant agreement signed

The Switzerland-based Mira company is reportedly looking to construct a new cement plant in Douala, Cameroon, under an agreement signed with the government, local press have reported citing sources at the Ministry of Industry, Mining and Technological Development. According to the article published by StarAfrica, the company should benefit from the provisions on incentives for private investment in Cameroon. The new cement plant project is expected to have an initial capacity of 1Mta.

St-Gobain gets green light to acquire control of Sika

The Swiss competition commission (Comco) has authorised the control of Sika by construction materials giant St-Gobain, the French company announced in a press release on Tuesday. This decision follows the favourable ruling handed down by the European Commission on 22 July 2015 as well as the decisions already received from other competition authorities, notably in the United States and China.
