CMA raises competition concerns over Breedon and Cemex deal

Breedon’s purchase of certain Cemex assets has raised competition concerns in the supply of building materials in some parts of the UK, the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) has found. CRH sees EBITDA rise 2% in the 1H20

CRH has released its unaudited results for the first half of 2020, showing a 4.9 per cent YoY decline in revenue to US$12.2bn from US$12.85bn in the 1H19. Another 26 jobs will go at Cemex's mothballed South Ferriby Cement plant after a review of the tanker fleet. Waste Knot Energy (Waste Knot) has secured funding from Gresham House's British Strategic Investment Fund (BSIF) to build its first fuel pelleting plant in Middlesbrough, UK. Breedon Group Plc announced its interim (unaudited) results for the six months ended 30 June 2020 with revenue reaching GBP353.3m, representing a 25 per cent drop from GBP447.4m in 1H19. Breedon recorded cement sales of 0.8Mt in the 1H20, down from 1Mt in 1H19, while ready-mix sales declined to 1Mm 3 in the 1H20 from 1.5Mm 3 in the 1H19. Breedon Group has had an assessment of the Hope Cement plant's economic contribution to the local economy. Following consultations with employee representatives and Unite the Union, Cemex has confirmed that it will be mothballing its South Ferriby plant in north Lincolnshire, UK.
