Vietnam's cement sales set to rise 2% in 1Q21

Vietnam is expected to sell 8.87Mt of cement in March, up 1.5 per cent YoY, according to the latest data from the Department of Building Materials under the Ministry of Construction. The figure includes 5.02Mt of cement sold in the domestic market. State-owned VICEM is also expected to sell 1.83Mt in the domestic market and 3.85Mt of exports during the March period. Cement deliveries in Vietnam surged 77 per cent YoY to 5.079Mt in January 2021. However, MoM they fell by 16 per cent, reports the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Vietnam sees cement and clinker exports rise 16%

Vietnam exported 2.7Mt of cement and clinker worth US$98m in February, up 16.8 per cent and 4.8 per cent YoY, respectively, according to the country’s General Statistics Office (GSO). In the first two months of this year, the country exported 5.84Mt of cement and clinker (up 15.9 per cent) representing a value of US$214m (up 6.6 per cent).

Vietnam produced 15.5Mt of cement in the first two months of 2020, up 14 per cent YoY, according to the country’s General Statistics Office (GSO). In February the country’s cement output is expected to be down six per cent YoY to 6.8Mt. In 2020 production reached 100.1Mt of cement, rising 3.6 per cent YoY, according to the revised figures.

Ha Tien Cement sees 29% decline in net profit

Vietnam’s Ha Tien Cement has reported a 28.6 per cent YoY fall in net profit to VND153.97bn (US$6.64m) in the final quarter of 2020. Net revenue also declined 3.2 per cent to VND2.21trn. The company saw a consolidated net profit of VND615.49bn on a net revenue of VND7.96trn in 2020, down 16.9 per cent and 9.9 per cent YoY, respectively.

Vietnam exported over 3.6Mt of cement and clinker worth US$135m in December 2020, up 15.3 per cent MoM in volume and 10.8 per cent YoY in value, according to the General Department of Customs. Vietnam’s total sales of cement and clinker has been estimated at 101.5Mt for 2020, representing a rise of 1.5 per cent over 2019. According to a report by SSI Research, domestic cement demand is forecast to increase around 5-7 per cent this year compared to 2020.
