At Lafarge Africa Plc (Holcim group) has reaffirmed its commitment towards affordable and clean energy, through the launch of a new set of 52 LNG-fuelled trucks. Senegal demand surges but exports fall in April

The Senegalese cement market expanded by 158.7 per cent in April 2021, according to the Agence Nationale de la Statistique et de la Demographie. However, domestic output declined by 9.9 per cent while export sales slipped by 3.5 per cent YoY in April 2021.

Nigeria to build new 5Mta cement plant in Gombe State

Dangote's Edo plant is ready to start production

Dangote Cement's US$1bn plant in Edo, Nigeria, is completed and set for commissioning. The plant has a cement production capacity of 6Mta and is built on a 100ha plot. The integrated cement plant, near Okpella, was built by Sinoma International Engineering Co and   1500 local workers collaborated with the Chinese engineers on the project. Cameroon’s former Minister of Mining, Jacques-Yves Mbélé Ndoé has been appointed chairman of the Cimencam’s executive board and as a result, is also the representative of the country’s President in the company’s executive board. Dangote acquires 20,000 vehicles to improve distribution

Nigeria’s Dangote Cement has acquired 20,000 additional vehicles to improve the distribution of its products across the country. The vehicles, made up of trucks, trailers and tippers, represent an investment of US$150m. Cameroon’s Minister of Commerce threatens to shut down Cimencam plant

Cameroon’s Minister of Commerce, Luc Mbarga Atangana has informed LafargeHolcim’s Cameroon subsidiary Cimencam it will shut down the cement plant if it proceeds to increase its prices unilaterally.   If the price increase goes ahead, Mr Mbarga Atangana has said that he will see himself “in the obligation to order the installation of seals on your installations.” Cement is a product that is subject to the preliminary price approval procedure.      

Ghana's EPA shuts down operations at Empire Cement

Ghana’s Environmental Protection Agency shut down the operations of Empire Cement on Friday after it began operations without a permit, according to the Ghana News Agency. The company was reportedly provided with an interim permit to manufacture packaging but entered into cement production. Workers at the factory stated that they were not aware that it did not have a permit.
