BUA invests in technology to lower costs

BUA Cement has announced plans to invest in state-of-the-art technologies in a bid to reduce operating costs after reporting a 20 per cent increase in the cost of sales in the first half of 2023. Three of Nigeria’s leading cement producers have reported combined revenue of NGN1.37trn (US$1788m) in the opening six months of 2023, despite the challenging business environment. Dangote Cement has reported total sales volumes of 13.4Mt in the first half of 2023. BUA Cement posts 1H23 revenue of NGN221bn

BUA Cement of Nigeria reported revenue of NGN221,067m (US$284.9m) in the 1H23, up 17.2 per cent from the NGN188,562m recorded in the 1H22.   Operating profits totalled NGN86,940m in the 1H23, up 11.8 per cent from NGN77,737m in the 1H22. Profit before tax amounted to NGN76,425m, up from NGN77,378m in the 1H22. Profit after tax totalled NGN63,616m, a rise of 3.7 per cent from the NGN61,364m seen in the 1H22.

Bedeschi helps Takoradi Port receive largest ship

Takoradi Port, Ghana, has received the biggest bulk ship ever to call the port since its construction in 1928. Cement prices in Nigeria have risen suddenly, reportedly driven by high inflation that advanced to 22.4 per cent in May. In some markets, a 50kg bag of cement has increased in price from NGN4600-4700 (US$5.92-6.04) to NGN5000 in the space of a few days. Senegal's cement consumption fell 22% in April

The Senegalese cement market contracted 22.1 per cent MoM and 10.6 per cent YoY to 525,100t in April 2023, according to the country’s Department for Economic Planning and Policies (DPEE). While exports were down 17.6 per cent MoM in April 2023, when compared with April 2022 they surged 148.8 per cent to 159,200t. Output from domestic cement plants retreated 18.4 per cent MoM but increased by four per cent YoY to 693,500t in April 2023.
