Spain’s demand for cement contracts 18% in May

Cement consumption in Spain has fallen 17.8 per cent YoY to 1.144Mt in May as construction works halted in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Oficemen, the country’s cement association. Votorantim has named Juan Aguilera as the new industrial director of Cementos Cosmos. Mr Aguilera will supervise the management of the company’s four cement plants and two grinding units in Spain. Carthage Cement begins exporting cement to Italy

Tunisia’s Carthage Cement launched its first export shipment of 4100t of EC-certified Portland cement to Italy last Friday. The dispatch is reportedly part of a larger contract to supply 250,000t of cement and clinker to Europe. "Our company has got a certification of the products in compliance with the requirements of the European standards, which has helped us be the first to enter the European market and we intend to remain there," indicated Brahim Sanaa, CEO, Carthage Cement.

Aker Solutions signs CO2 capture agreement with Norcem

Aker Solutions and HeidelbergCement-owned Norcem have signed an agreement towards the engineering, procurement and construction of a CO 2 capture, liquification and intermediate storage plant at Norcem’s cement plant in Brevik, Norway. The carbon capture plant in Brevik is part of the Norwegian carbon capture demonstration project to be funded by the Norwegian government. Parliament is expected to take the final decision to implement the full-scale project in the national budget for 2021....

Lafarge Cement (Aggregate Industries) has appointed John Mulgrew as the new plant manager of its renowned Cookstown cement plant in Northern Ireland. Cementos Cosmos to burn tyres at Toral de los Vados

The Toral de los Vados cement works, operated by Cementos Cosmos, will be able to use waste tyres as alternative fuel following the granting of an Integrated Environmental Authorisation. Fire at Mannersdorf cement works

A fire broke out at Lafarge Zementwerke’s Mannersdorf cement plant in Austria at around 19h on Sunday, 7 June 2020. According to the company, the starting point was the fuel store and the fire spread to a conveyor system. However, the cause of the fire is not yet known. HeidelbergCement held its 131st Annual General Meeting (AGM) yesterday with around 1000 people following the live transmission on the Internet.
