Cement consumption in Peru up 6% in June

Peru’s cement market expanded by 5.7 per cent YoY to 0.865Mt in June 2018 and when compared with the previous month, largely stable, according to the latest data from Asocem, the country’s cement association. Cement demand in Kenya has fallen to 1.4Mta in the second quarter of the year, according to a report from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS). On 4 July 2018, Ukraine's Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade (ICIT) announced the initiation of two anti-dumping investigations into imports of steel and cement. Argentina’s cement market contracted by 3.5 per cent to 970,978t in June 2018 from 1.007Mt in June 2017, according to the latest data from AFCP, the country’s cement association. Output from the country’s cement plants slipped 2.8 per cent to 973,743t from 1.002Mt in June 2017. Botswana to restrict cement imports

The Botswana Government will restrict cement imports from September 2018. According to the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Bogolo Kenewendo, the step is part of the process aimed at stimulating economic activity and job creation.  "The proposed restrictions would be done through the issuance of import permit after the importer has submitted evidence that indeed they have satisfied the 70 per cent requirement," Mr Kenewendo said.

Total cement sales in the 1Q18 in Uruguay totalled 219,000t, representing an increase of 18 per cent YoY. Mozambique customs service seizes 1440t of cement at border

The Mozambican customs service has defended the seizure on 2 June of 28,800 sacks of cement (1440t) imported from South Africa, despite the insistence by the importing company, Kawena, that such imports are exempt from customs duty.
