Argentine cement consumption decreased by 4.4 per cent to 924,979t in May 2018, according to AFCP, the country’s cement association. When compared with the previous month, demand contracted by 3.5 per cent from 958,184t in April. Cement exports from Cameroon reached 57,459t in 2017, a considerable increase from 19,700t in 2016, according to data released by the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Trade. Cement sales in Brazil increased 8.9 per cent to 4.352Mt in April 2018 when compared with 3.997Mt in April 2017, according to preliminary industry data published by the country’s cement association, SNIC. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto rico in February contracted by 3.6 per cent YoY to 5.8Mt, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Peru’s cement market expanded by 13.5 per cent YoY in April 2018 as cement deliveries reached 0.817Mt, according to the latest data from the country’s cement association, Asocem. Trinidad Cement Ltd (TCL) and its Barbados-based subsidiary Arawak Cement Ltd are reported to have filed legal action against the Government of Barbados, accusing it of breaking the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) single market and economy, according to Barbados Today. Argentina’s cement market expanded by 13.5 per cent in April to 958,241t  when compared with April 2017, but fell 12.2 per cent MoM, according to the country’s cement producers’ association, AFCP.This demand was met by 953,081t of domestic output and 5160t of imports. Peru’s cement consumption rose 1.9 per cent YoY to 816,000t and one per cent MoM from 824,000t in February 2018, according to the national cement association, Asocem.
