The Ministry of External Trade in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has imposed an import ban on a selection of goods, Including cement which is expected to impact on Zambian cement producers. Peru sees 4% rise in cement demand in September

Cement consumption in Peru advanced 3.8 per cent YoY from 0.82Mt in September 2016 to 0.851Mt one year later, according to data from Asocem, the country's cement association. Total dispatches increased 2.9 per cent YoY to 0.884Mt in September 2017 from 0.86Mt in the year-ago period. This includes a 14 per cent drop in cement exports to 33,000t. Argentina's demand sees 11% rise in 9M17

Argentina’s cement producers delivered 1,121,311t of cement in September 2017, up 12.6 per cent YoY and 0.8 per cent MoM, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. The Philippines' DTI seeks equal treatment on all imported cement

The Philippines' Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) wants to impose "equal treatment" to all imported cement, regardless if the product is brought in by a pure trader or by a manufacturer. "We're not going to give a distinction. Every [product] will undergo product testing, but we’ll see if we're going to do pre-shipment or post-shipment or both. Construction of hydropower projects has stalled due to the cement shortage in Nepal. Imports have been halted as the Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology (NBSM) has set new standards for imported cement. Peru’s cement association, Asocem, reported a 2.3 per cent YoY rise in domestic deliveries from 0.838Mt in August 2016 to 0.857Mt in August 2017. Cement imports remained largely stable at 43,800t while clinker imports reached 86,000t. Cement consumption in Argentina increased 7.4 per cent to 1.122Mt in August 2017 from 1.044Mt in August 2016, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. The organisation also noted a 10.3 per cent rise MoM from 1.017Mt in July 2017. Azerbaijan cement production up 24% YoY in 7M17

Around 1.578Mt of cement were produced in Azerbaijan in the first seven months of 2017, representing a YoY increase of 24.1 per cent, according to the Azerbaijani state statistics committee. First-half of 2017 data indicate that local producers control 99 per cent of the market with an output of 1.29Mt. Imports during the six months reached 14,000t, with a value of US$2.9m. In 1H16 38,700t of cement were imported.
