In 2016 Tajikistan exported 300,000t of cement, mainly to Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, according to Tajik Minister of Industry and New Technologies, Shavkat Bobozoda. Production of cement in Tajikistan rose by over 41 per cent in the first 11 months of 2016 compared to the same period in the previous year, the Times of Central Asia reports. Cement exports to Afghanistan declined 23.4 per cent YoY in October 2016, falling from 0.252Mt to 0.193Mt. Tajikistan has commenced the export of cement to Uzbekistan, according to the Tajik Ministry of Industry. For the first two months of the current fiscal year (July-August 2016) Pakistan's total cement dispatches increased 14 per cent to 4.9Mt when compared to the 4.3Mt recorded in the same period last year. According to the Tajikistan Ministry of Industry and New Technologies, a new 1.2Mta cement plant will be brought into operation in the Yovon district, Khatlon province, this month. Pakistan's cement industry exported 5.97Mt of cement in FY15-16, which represents a fall of 22.3 per cent YoY, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. The bureau attributes the decline to contracting demand and competition among other issues. Pakistani cement exports have fallen by 17.41 per cent to 5.48Mt during the first 11 months of the fiscal year, compared to exports of 6.65Mt during the same period in the previous year. Two armed men have kidnapped 15 workers at Ghori cement plant and Afghan Coal in Baghlan, northeast Afghanistan, according to Tolo News. The incident took place on Sunday morning.
