Pakistan exports continue to fall in first quarter

Pakistan cement exports continued to fall in the first quarter of FY14-15, largely due to declining shipments to its biggest market of Afghanistan. Export volumes in the July-September 2014 period fell by 3.85 per cent to 2.436Mt while revenues were down 3.22 per cent to US$ 142.77m. In terms of the Pakistan rupee, revenues also showed a 5.38 per cent drop to PKR14.36bn. During the first month of the new Pakistan fiscal, cement exports declined by 30.31 per cent YoY to 557,159t, with shipments to Afghanistan falling significantly. Pakistan reported a decline in export revenue in FY14, due in part to lower sales to Afghanistan and a decline in average export prices. Encouraging trends were, however, noted in exports to India and other parts of the world. Pakistan export volumes and revenues have continued to decline in the first 10 months of the current fiscal, mainly due to a decline in shipments to Afghanistan. Pakistan export volumes have seen a decline in the first nine months of the current fiscal both in terms of volumes and dollar value. However, latest monthly figures show a significant increase in exports to India. Pakistan exports declined both in terms of volume and value in the first six months of the current fiscal, data from the Bureau of Statistics shows. Cement exports totalled 4.206Mt on revenues of US$257.07m compared to 4.681Mt at US$304.31m.
