Cemex has agreed the sale of its operations in Bangladesh and Thailand to Siam City Cement for around US$53m. In Thailand there is an integrated works at Saraburi with a clinker capacity of 0.73Mta and a cement capacity of 0.85Mta. Following a hike in gas prices by Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission, a rise in the production cost and sales price of cement is expected in the country. Thailand-based Siam City Cement (Bangladesh) Ltd has appointed PN Iyer as its new CEO. According to the cement firm, Mr Iyer has over 35 years’ experience in sales and marketing across different cement companies around the world. Mr Iyer attended IMD Business School in Switzerland and is also an alumni of Harvard Business school.

Vietnam cement exports fall 17.2% YoY in 9M16

In September Vietnam’s clinker and cement exports fell 0.3 per cent to 1.15Mt when compared with August but climbed 3.5 per cent to US$48.16m, according the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade. Cement and clinker exports from Vietnam to Bangladesh market in the first eight months of 2016 reached US$94.20m worth, accounting for 26 per cent of total export value.
