Fancesa secures US$72m contract

Bolivia-based cement company Fabrica Nacional de Cemento (Fancesa) has been awarded the US$72m contract to supply over 582,000t of cement needed to build Nueva Santa Cruz Ciudad Inteligente project in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. The smart city project belongs to the Lafuente group. The contract follows a year-long negotiation process and was announced by Fancesa and Lafuente in the cement producer’s Sucre facilities. Bolivian cement demand advances 21% in November

The Bolivian cement market expanded by 20.9 per cent to 342,743t in November 2020 from 283,404t in November 2019, according to the country’s statistics institute, INE. However, MoM there was a 10.5 per cent decline from 382,944t in October 2020. Cement production in Bolivia surged by 77.3 per cent to 361,363t in November 2020 from 203,779t in November 2019. When compared with the previous month, output slipped 7.4 per cent from 390,321t.

Cement consumption in Bolivia edged up 0.8 per cent YoY to 382,944t in October 2020 from 379,781t in October 2019, according to Bolivia’s national statistics agency, INE. In the country’s largest market, La Paz, demand rose 12.1 per cent YoY to 101,185t while in Cochabamba, offtake was 2.9 per cent up YoY to 97,911t. Cement consumption in Bolivia dropped 12.6 per cent YoY to 337,063t in September 2020 from 385,624t in September 2019, according to the country’s statistics office, INE. Bolivian market contracts 33% YoY in August

Cement consumption in Bolivia edged up 7.4 per cent MoM from 231,662t in July 2020 to 248,852t in August 2020, according to the country’s statistics agency, INE. When compared with August 2019, demand fell 32.7 per cent from 369,520t. Cement production in domestic cement plants slipped 2.6 per cent MoM from 256,231t in July 2020 to 249,579t in August. When compared with August 2019, the drop was 30.4 per cent from 358,461t.

Cement consumption in Bolivia has declined 34.2 per cent YoY in the 4M20 as a result of the quarantine imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Bolivian statistics agency, INE. Work on Potosí to resume

Construction work on the new state-owned Potosí cement works in Bolivia will resume in July, according to House of Representatives member Gonzalo Barrientos. "In July, the works of the Potosí cement factory will restart, which is part of the economic reactivation measures. The coronavirus pandemic has seen a readjustment of the work schedule of the new plant being built in Sucre, Bolivia, by Fancesa as COVID-19 forced a 70-day quarantine upon the project. Start-up of the cement plant is now expected in the first quarter of 2021. Cementos Molins posted a consolidated net profit of EUR90m in 2019, up five per cent YoY. EBITDA increased five per cent YoY to EUR49m. However, the depreciation of the Argentine peso and the hyperinflation in the Latin American country impacted the results.
