Peruvian producer Cementos Pacasmayo reported a drop in net income of 11.8 per cent YoY to PEN39.8m (US$14.1m) in the first quarter of 2014. Sales of local cement manufacturers grew by 8.6 per cent to 5.2Mt in the first three months of the year, on the back of continued growth in the construction and real estate industries. Ecuador cement sales during January-March 2014 period reached 1.522Mt, a 2.5 per cent increase compared to 1.485Mt sold in the first quarter of last year, latest data from domesic cement and concrete institute INECYC shows. March 2014 sales totalled 497,601t, down 0.4 per cent from the same period of last year when dispatches reached 499,743t. Sales were also down when compared to February 2014 (511,795t), representing a 2.8 per cent MoM decline.

Brazil’s first quarter sales rise 6.4% YoY

Brazil’s first quarter sales rose 6.4 per cent YoY to 17.1Mt, preliminary data from SNIC shows. Sales in March reached 5.6Mt, representing YoY growth of 1.9 per cent compared to the same month of 2013. Cumulative sales for the last 12 moths (April 2013 – March 2014) rose by 4.3 per cent against the comparative period  of the previous year (April 12 – March 2013).

In March, the Peruvian cement market remained broadly stable from 815,317t in February to 814,495t, according to domestic cement association, Asocem.   Output from local producers increased 1.4 per cent from 832,275t the previous month to 844,301t and exports rose 8.1 per cent from 15,349t in February to 16,599t. Cement sales in Morocco expanded 8.23 per cent YoY in March, offering local cement producers hope for a better year after a difficult start. Pakistan cement sales during the first nine months of the current fiscal rose marginally by 0.7 per cent to 24.705Mt, according to preliminary statistics. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in January were 4.9Mt, up slightly from the January 2013 level, USGS data released today shows. Vietnam sold 10.23Mt of cement in the domestic market in the first quarter of this year, up eight per cent from a year ago, the Ministry of Construction (MoC) said.
