Colombia maintains cement demand

Colombian cement shipments reached 806,000t in January, according to national statistics office, Dane with better sales to the ready-mix concrete, builders and contractors segments supporting the result. Vietnam’s domestic sales declined by 18.6 per cent YoY in the first month of this year to 2.93Mt due to subdued real estate activity, the country’s Ministry of Construction (MoC) has said. Exports during January 2014 totalled 820,000t, including 170,000t of cement, the MoC said on its website. The slowdown in Saudi Arabian cement sales continued in January 2014, falling short of analysts expectations. Cement sales in Indonesia declined by 0.3 per cent to 4.64Mta as heavy rains triggered extensive flooding, causing disruption to construction activity and distribution networks. Philippine cement sales increased by 5.9 per cent YoY on the back of increased infrastructure activity, the Cement Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (CeMAP) has said. Local cement producers saw sales grow to 19.4Mt from 18.4Mt the year before, according to Ernesto M. Ordoñez, president of CeMAP. Ahangarancement, part of the Eurocement Group, produced over 1.116Mt of clinker and 1.62Mt of cement in 2013. The Uzbekistan-based producer said clinker volumes rose by 13 per cent YoY (or 137,600t) while cement output was up by six per cent (86,400t). Nepal-based cement producers have reported a 10-15 per cent YoY increase in 2013 cement sales as the construction of dams, bridges and housing projects boosts demand. Cement deliveries in Peru reached 10,256,359t in 2013, up 7.15 per cent YoY when compared with the 9,571,920t dispatched in 2012, according to Peru’s cement association, Asocem. Brazilian cement sales seen reaching 70Mt in 2013

Brazilian cement sales in during December 2013 remained stagnant at 5.1Mt compared to the same month of the previous year, latest data from local association SNIC shows. In the final quarter of 2013, sales increased by 2.7 per cent. In the first, second and third quarters sales increased by two, 4.4 and 4.2 per cent respectively. These preliminary results indicate that for 2013, sales by domestic producers into the market were 70Mt compared to 68.3Mt the year before, a rise of 2.3 per cent.

Cement dispatches in Peru increased 7.45 per cent YoY to 9,408,853t between January and November 2013, according to the its cement association Asocem. The latest figures confirm a cooling trend as dispatches in October increased 8.23 per cent and January-November 2012 showed a rise of 16.6 per cent.
