Venezuela central bank to visit cement producers

Venezuela’s Minister of Industries, Wilmer Barrientos, said representatives of the country’s central bank would visit cement companies to find solutions to the sector’s issues. Vicem February sales rise 42% YoY

Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (Vicem), the country’s leading cement producer, sold 1.48Mt of cement and clinker in February, up 2.78 per cent from the previous month and 42 per cent from a year ago. Ecuador’s monthly sales return to growth

Ecuador cement sales in February rose by 14.3 per cent YoY to 511,794t, latest data from domestic association INECYC reveal.   For the first two months of 2014, sales advanced by four per cent to 1.024Mt.   The February advance follows a 4.6 per cent YoY decline in January sales, the association’s statistics show.

Peruvian domestic dispatches stable

Cement dispatches in Peru edged up 0.14 per cent in Jan-Feb 2014 to 1,639,454t when compared with the equivalent period of the previous year, according to Peru’s cement association, Asocem. However, producers saw a 25.3 per cent YoY drop in exports, which reached 32,569t. Cement production in the country’s cement plants fell 1.2 per cent to 1,657,696t when compared with Jan-Feb 2013.

Morocco: February cement sales slip 5.4%

Moroccan cement sales decreased by 5.4 per cent in February, resulting in a drop of 9.1 per cent in the first two months of 2014, according to the country’s Ministry of Finance. Indonesian cement sales rose 2.7 per cent last month to 4.4Mt from a year earlier, state-owned Semen Indonesia announced, citing data from Indonesia Cement Association (ASI). Polish cement sales were 40 per cent higher in February 2014 than a year ago, latest data from the Polish Cement Association (SPC) shows. Sales hit 1.29Mt as favourable weather and signs of a construction recovery boosted results. Pakistan February sales 8.7% higher

Pakistan cement sales rose by 8.7 per cent YoY in February 2014 to 2.135Mt, led by strong demand from the domestic market. Saudi sees monthly sales decline

Saudi cement sales declined by three per cent to 4.59Mt in February 2014, compared to 4.74Mt in the same month of last year, local media have reported. Out of the 14 cement companies operating in the kingdom, 10 reported a declining in sales, according to a report prepared by Argaam Business Info. Clinker production, however, jumped by five per cent during the month to 4.07Mt, the report stated.

Vietnam Jan-Feb sales rise 6.7% YoY

Vietnam sold 8.4Mt of cement in the first two months of this year, up 6.7 per cent from a year earlier, the Ministry of Construction said. Of the total, 5.3Mt of cement was sold in the domestic market while about 3.1Mt of cement and clinker was exported. At present, the local cement industry has around 2.6Mt of inventory, mainly clinker.
