Colombian market grows 14.7% in May

Dispatches and output of cement in Colombia rose by 14.7 and 15.3 per cent, respectively in May, according to domestic statistics office, Dane. May deliveries reached 1.034Mt while production rose to 1.071Mt. Sales in Norte de Santander lead the market expansion, rising by 46.3 per cent, followed by Cundinamarca (30 per cent), Atlántico (23.8 per cent), Antioquia (20 per cent) and Bogotá (15 per cent). Brazilian monthly cement sales slip

Preliminary industry data and market estimates indicate that cement sales in the Brazilian domestic market in May 2014 reached 5.932Mt, down 0.7 per cent YoY, latest data from SNIC shows. Sales for the period January-May 2014 reached 28.8Mt. Compared to the same period of 2013, showed growth of 2.8 per cent. Cumulative sales in the last 12 months (June 2013 – May 2014) reached 70.7Mt, an increase of 3.1 per cent over the previous period (June 2012 - May 2013).

Vicem’s sales increase boosted by exports

State-owned Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem), the country's leading cement producer recorded a seven per cent rise in sales over the first four months of the year boosted by an increase in exports. In the January-April 2014 period, Vicem sold  7.4Mt, surpassing the initial target by 13.5 per cent. PPC Zimbabwe sales fall 5%

PPC Zimbabwe's domestic sales fell by five per cent in the first five months of the year as housebuilding activity slows. Managing director, Njombo Lekula, said domestic market sales have been flat compared to last year when growth in housing projects boosted demand for cement. Companies in Vietnam sold 6.07Mt of cement in May, up 9.7 per cent from a year ago, including 4.77Mt sold at the domestic market, rising by 11.9 per cent YoY, the Vietnam Building Material Department under the Ministry of Construction has said. Ecuador monthly sales see marginal YoY gains

Ecuador cement sales during January-April 2014 period reached 2.047, just 0.8 per cent ahead on the 2.030Mt sold in the comparative period of last year, latest data from domestic cement and concrete institute INECYC shows. April 2014 sales totalled 524,903t down 3.8 per cent from the same period of last year when dispatches reached 545,440t. However, sales were higher than those recorded in March 2014 (497,600t), representing a 5.5 per cent MoM increase.

Peru’s domestic cement dispatches reached 3,279,640t between January and April 2014, edging up 0.1 per cent YoY, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Brazilian cement sales in April 2014 climbed by 4.9 per cent YoY to 5.9Mt, preliminary data and market estimates gathered by Sindicato Nacional da Industria do Cimento (SNIC) reveal. During January - April 2014, sales totalled 22.8Mt, a 3.3 per cent rise compared to the first four months of last year. Accumulated cement sales for the 12 months between May 2013 - April 2014 reached 70.7Mt, expanding by three per cent compared to the same period of the previous year (May 2012 - April 2013).

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico of Portland and blended cement in the first quarter of 2014 reached 15.664Mt, preliminary data from the US Geological Survey shows.
