Saudi Arabia to reimpose cement export fees

After two-years of freezing cement and steel export fees, Saudi Arabia will begin levying fees on cement leaving the country in a bid to prop up falling oil revenues. The ban on cement exports from Saudi Arabia was lifted in mid-2017 when domestic demand slumped and cement stocks rose. Fees on cement exports were cut by 50 per cent over the last two years. Pakistan's cement industry recorded a growth of 21.9 per cent in earning of foreign exchange revenue, 40.4 per cent in terms of quantity and 49.7 per cent in terms of Pakistani rupee earnings from cement exports in the FY18-19, according to Pakistan's Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Bangladesh's cement industry has recorded a fall of 17.3 per cent in export revenue to US$10.41m between July 2018 and June 2019, compared to US$12.59m of the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, according to the Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau. The Peruvian cement market expanded by 4.1 per cent YoY to 0.914Mt in June, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. However, MoM demand fell by 4.8 per cent. Australia’s Southern Cross Cement, a joint venture between Brickworks, Neilsen Group and Neumann Group, has announced an AUD60m (US$42.19m) investment for a new cement terminal at the Port of Brisbane.
