Gabon’s government has published a price list for cement bags, fixing the price of cement in accordance with the decree signed on 17 February by the Minister in State in charge of Industrial Development, and their colleagues in Economy and Commerce. CIMAF Gabon to build clinker factory in Meba

CIMAF Gabon is establishing a clinker factory in the Meba area of Gabon, 40km east of the capital. CIMAF’s project was announced at the prime minister's office on 13 September, with the signing of an investment agreement between the leaders of CIMAF and the Gabonese authorities. No further details were given at the time. The Moroccan owned company currently operates a 0.85Mta grinding plant in Libreville.

1H cement sales fall 10% in Gabon

Gabon’s cement market contracted by 10.1 per cent to 197,246t in the 1H21 from 219,386t in the equivalent period of 2020, according to data by the country’s Ministry of Economy. In the first quarter of 2021 sales reached 102,823t but a drop to 94,423t was reported for the 2Q21. Cilas de Biskra exports 50,000t of clinker to Gabon

Algeria-based cement producer Cilas de Biskra has exported a shipment of 50,000t of clinker from Annaba to Gabon, according to Hafid Ouchiche, export director of LafargeHolcim Algérie. It is the fourth export shipment to Africa by Cilas and since January, the company has exported 0.5Mt of clinker. Ciments d’Afrique (CIMAF) Gabon has inaugurated its second production line at the Owendo plant. The 0.35Mta line will lift the plant’s total capacity to 0.85Mta after an investment of XAF9bn (US$16.3m). It includes a new-generation 50tph crusher and two 500m3 storage silos. The first three months of 2020 saw cement production in Gabon fall by 1.7 per cent YoY to 109,954t, according to Gabon’s General Directorate for the Economy and Fiscal Policy. Combined with the COVID-19 pandemic, this has started to impact the domestic market as prices are rising following a shortage of supply.

Dangote Cement will construct a new 3000tpd clinker grinding plant in Gabon, representing an investment of US$75m, according to Dangote Group President, Alhaji Aliko Dangote. Cement production in Gabon has increased by 20.7 per cent in the first nine months of 2019, according to DirectInfosGabon. Output from CIMAF and CimGabon reached 421,356t. Cement sales advanced by 17.7 per cent to 413,604t due to strong local demand, mainly from the self-build sector during the dry season. Cement company revenues were up 15.8 per cent YoY to XAF39.864bn (US$68m).
