Kazakhstan becomes net exporter of cement

Kazakhstan became a net exporter of cement in 2018. During 9M18, domestic cement producers exported more than 1.4Mt of cement with a total value of US$71.5m, almost doubling the export volume of 2017. Imports remained at the previous year’s level of 717,000t, supplied at a total value of US$38.8m. Steppe Cement sees revenue up 32% in 2018

Steppe Cement Ltd reported 2018 revenue of KZT28.34bn (US$75.4m), up 32 per cent YoY. The Kazakhstan cement producer had cement volumes of 1.7Mt, a rise of six per cent while the average cement price rose by 25 per cent YoY to KZT16,480/t. Steppe Cement's market share increased to 17.5 per cent, while the company's exports rose by 50 per cent to 146,000t. Despite this positive set of results, cement consumption in Kazakhstan fell by four per cent to 8.8Mt last year.

New Rudny plant to start export to Russia

A new US$100m cement plant was launched in Rudny, Kostanay region, Kazakhstan, to meet the requirements of the domestic cement industry as well as Russia’s southern regions, Kazakh media reported. A Kazakh-Singaporean business forum held on 21 November provided the venue for a bilateral investment treaty between the two countries as well as some 12 MoUs to establish partnerships.   The agreements included an MoU on the construction of a cement plant in the Almaty Region between Kazakh Invest JSC and International Cement Ltd, Alacem LLP, according to Central Asia News.

Kazakh producer increases cement exports to Uzbekistan

Kazakhstan-based cement producer, SAS-Tobe Technologies, has increased its exports to Uzbekistan. As the first Kazakh manufacturer accredited by the Uzbek Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange, it has sold 1500t of cement through the exchange in two months. The company plans to export more than 50 per cent of its products, about 0.25Mta, to Uzbekistan, according to Business World.

Oil-well cement plant launched in Kazakhstan

An oil-well cement plant is set to be launched in Kyzylorda region in December as part of the Industrial and Innovative Development Program. Kazakhstan’s Steppe Cement recorded a 22 per cent increase in consolidated turnover to US$32.8m for the 1H18 period. Profit after tax rose to US$200,000 in the period, up from a US$300,000 loss in the 1H17. Kazakhstan cement output increases to 4.6Mt in 1H18

Production at Kazakh cement plants rose 11.5 per cent YoY to 4.634Mt of cement in the first half of 2018.  In 2017 domestic output reached 4.156Mt, up 1.5 per cent  from 4.094Mt in 2016. Earlier this week, Vicat reported positive results for its Jambyl Cement subsidiary, where turnover rose by 21.4 per cent and EBITDA by 45.4 per cent on the back of a 28 per cent rise in cement volumes. The company reported good domestic volumes as well as strong export sales.
