South Valley Cement sees net loss narrow in 2020

Egypt’s South Valley Cement Co has recorded a net loss of EGP250.59m (US$15.97m) in 2020, narrowing from an EGP316.34m loss seen in the previous year. The company’s sales declined 20.3 per cent YoY to EGP350.21m from EGP439.26m in 2019.

Algeria starts clinker exports to France

CILAS commenced Algerian clinker exports to France with a 9000t shipment of clinker from the port of Skikda. In the coming weeks, other shipments of 10,000t will leave Algeria for France, according to M Souakri. Clinker exports to other European countries such as Serbia and Belgium are also being considered. The company has set a clinker export target of 1Mt this year. Arabian Cement reports net loss in 2020

Egypt’s Arabian Cement Co has reported an EGP122.78m (US$7.8m) net loss during 2020, compared with an EGP28.92m profit in the previous year. Sales revenues declined 20 per cent YoY to EGP2.48bn from EGP3.1bn. On a standalone basis, the company saw losses reach EGP116.21m against an EGP30.09m profit in 2019.

Moroccan market contracts 12% in January

Cement deliveries in Morocco by members of the country’s cement association, APC, saw a 12.3 per cent drop in January 2021, according to data published by the Ministry of Urbanism and Housing. Dispatches by Asment Temara, Ciments de l’Atlas, Ciments du Maroc and LafargeHolcim Maroc declined from 1,182,198t to 1,037,005t in the first month of 2021.

Tunisia-based Carthage Cement has reported a 22 per cent rise in its revenues in the fourth quarter of 2020. Domestic sales were up 19 per cent YoY. Cement demand slips 1% in Morocco in December

Cement demand in Morocco declined 0.8 per cent YoY to 1.18Mt in December 2020, according to the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism. Deliveries to the infrastructure segment increased 7.3 per cent YoY to 102,520t in December 2020, but offtake to the ready-mix concrete segment fell by 4.8 per cent YoY to 202,802t. Suez Cement receives approval to delist from EGX

The Egyptian Exchange’s (EGX) listing committee has approved the voluntary delisting of Suez Cement Group from the EGX, according to a disclosure. Suez Cement's capital amounts to EGP909.28m (US$57.74m) distributed on more than 181.8m shares. The company purchased the shares of dissenting shareholders at EGP7.50 each.
