Morocco’s cement deliveries advance 1% in October

Moroccan cement delivers edged up 0.8 per cent in October 2021 to 1,254,798t from 1,245,064t in October 2020, according to the Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. The data apply to members of the domestic cement association, APC – Asment Temara, Ciments de l’Atlas, Ciments du Maroc and Holcim Maroc. In the January-October 2021 period 11.491Mt of cement was supplied to the domestic market by these producers, a 16.1 per cent increase when compared with 9.898Mt in the 10M20.

Misr Cement (Qena) announces 168% surge in profit

Egypt’s Misr Cement (Qena) has reported a 168 per cent YoY surge in consolidated net profit during the first nine months of 2021, reaching EGP107.4m (US$6.84m) from EGP40.11m in the comparable period of 2020. Standalone net profit also advanced 78.9 per cent to EGP80.77m against EGP45.15m in the 9M20. 

Arabian Cement Co announces contraction in net loss

Egypt’s Arabian Cement Co has announced a consolidated net loss of EGP23.21m (US$1.48m) during the first nine months of 2021, an improvement from the EGP39.77m net loss seen in the 9M20.  The standalone net loss reached -EGP24.53m against -EGP38.25m in the January-September 2020 period.

Lafarge Algeria hits 2Mt export record

Lafarge Algeria, part of the Holcim group, has exported 2Mta of cement and clinker for the first time, according to a company press release. The company achieved the volume less than five years after the start of cement exports from Algeria. Carthage Cement sees 39% hike in 9M revenue

Tunisia-based Carthage Cement saw its revenue in the 9M21 jump by 39 per cent YoY to TND239.2m (US$85.4m), according to ilBoursa. The company has attributed the increase to a surge of cement and clinker exports, which advanced from TND2.2m to TND32.9m. Morocco’s cement market expands 12% in September

Moroccan cement deliveries by member companies have advanced by 12.4 per cent YoY to 1,395,542t in September 2021 from 1,241,374t in September 2020, according to the Moroccan cement association, APC. In the first nine months of 2021 dispatch volumes were up 18.3 per cent YoY to 10,236,566t from 8,653,221t in the January-September 2020 period.

Algeria’s SSCB exported 25,000t of cement in 9M21

Société Saoura Ciment de Béchar (SSCB), part of Algeria-based GICA, exported 25,000t of cement to African countries such as Mali, Niger and Mauritania since the start of the year. Mauritania has accounted for 60 per cent of SSCB’s exports. Carthage Cement lowers cement price

Tunisia-based Carthage Cement announced it will lower its wholesale prices for cement to TND150 (US$53.81) per 30t truck for two months. The decision will come into effect from 13 September 2021. The company said the step follows the advice of the National Chamber of Cement Producers after meeting with senior officials from the Ministries of Trade and Industry.

New plant to be constructed in Libya

Libya’s National Mining Corp and Al-Shahba Cement Co have signed an agreement to construct a 1Mta cement works in Al-Shahba, south of Tobruk. The Minister of Industry and Minerals, Ahmed Abuhisa, laid the foundation stone for the establishment of the cement factory on Thursday.

Cement deliveries by Moroccan cement producers Asment Temara, Ciments de l’Atlas, Ciments du Maroc and LafargeHolcim Maroc advanced 31.1 per cent YoY to 1,132,899t from 864,441t in August 2020, according to Ipsos data published by the country’s Ministry for Housing and Urbanisation.
