Sinoma-CBMI lifts ball mills into position on SC3 project

Sinoma-CBMI is progressing with the modernisation of the Ciments du Sahel plant in Kirene, Senegal. The third clinker line (SC3) project has recently seen the installation of two cement mills lifted into place. The size of each ball mill is 5.2m x19.25m and they weigh in at 208t. Senegalese cement output up 9% in December 2020

The production of cement in Senegal has advanced 8.9 per cent MoM in December 2020. However, domestic cement sales have slipped by 0.1 per cent  while exports were down 9.2 per cent MoM, according to the national statistics and demographic agency, ANSD. When compared with the year-ago period, production edged up 0.9 per cent, while local sales remained stable and exports contracted by 17 per cent.

Vicat announced FY20 sales of EUR2805m, up 5.5 per cent from EUR2740m in FY19. EBITDA rose to EUR557m, up by 10.1 per cent LfL and EBIT increased to EUR298m, a rise of 17.5 per cent LfL.  Vicat’s consolidated net income reached EUR172m, up 17.5 per cent LfL from EUR160m in FY19. Dangote Cement reported group revenue up two per cent to NGN476.9bn (US$1.23bn) in the 1H20. Group EBITDA rose to NGN218.1bn and pan-African EBITDA increased by 31.6 per cent to NGN31.5bn. Senegal sees contraction in cement sector

Cement exports from Senegal have fallen by 42.3 per cent MoM in March 2020 while domestic sales slipped by 0.5 per cent, according to ANSD, the national agency for statistics and demography. YoY the drop was 41.5 per cent for exports while domestic sales edged up 0.2 per cent.   Output at the country’s cement plants declined by 9.5 per cent MoM and 7.7 per cent YoY.

Nigeria’s Dangote Cement exported its first shipment of clinker to Senegal during the weekend. The 27,800t shipment set off from the company’s terminal in Apapa Port, Lagos. "This vessel, being the maiden ship is exporting 27,800t to Senegal and this is just a tip of the iceberg as to what we have in plan. Senegal’s President, Macky Sall, has imposed a tax of XOF2000/t (US$3.30/t) on cement to finance social housing, according to Le Quotidien. The latest increase follows a XOF3000 hike only a few months earlier and cement producers have warned that the new tax will lead to a rise in cement prices and a spike in building material prices. However, consumers have disputed the arguments of the cement companies and said that the rise has already occurred.
